sources from unlikely places

The Google Alerts system is under perhaps the least unknown and under valued ‘add on’ available to google / gmail account holders.

Whether this is due to a lack of advertising or if Google itself considers it a minor enhanced feature of their growing array of applications for their audience, however, if it were not due to the alert system, I would not have learned of numerous independent film festivals around the globe.

The Twain Hart Film Festival in California is an example of a film festival which I had not considered or heard of which was in my inbox via my ‘Independent Film Festival’ alert, which subsequently awarded Ollie with their ‘2011 Best Narrative Short Award’.  Not only has Google Alerts provided greater ability to keep track of subjects, features,  news or even yourself (if your inclined to receive alerts on your own name), but the alert system has enabled the film makers and community in general access to a more broader community to reach out to and connect with.
